Solid Wood.

Our passion - procurement and processing of solid wood.

Solid wood has always been our great passion. Over many decades, we have acquired a great deal of knowledge in the procurement and processing of solid wood. Today, many consumers share this passion with us and, now more than ever, are opting for natural furniture and building materials, preferably made from local wood. There is a wide range of wood types to choose from. Read on to find out more about why this is so, and which types of wood are favoured.

Natural and durable solid wood

There are many reasons to choose furniture or building materials made of solid wood. Solid wood is beautiful to look at, smells good, is natural and lively and radiates warmth. With its durability, it fulfils the demand of many consumers to buy sustainable products that, with careful care, will last for decades and are a source of joy. Those who value quality and wish to build a home in which they can live and be happy for a long time instinctively choose solid wood. For you can see and feel the difference.
While furniture made of plastic or steel often appears rather sterile and uniform, every piece of furniture made of solid wood is unique, since it was made from a living tree. Solid wood also manages to meet all tastes and offers the right look for every desired furnishing style, from light to dark, from discreet to vividly patterned. Moreover, a different look can be created at any time with sanding and surface treatments, or older pieces of furniture can be helped back to a fresh look if required.

However, not only the visual advantages, but also the unique feel favour the use of solid woods. The smooth and plain surfaces of modern materials simply cannot compete here. With real wood, you can feel its naturalness, its liveliness. Moreover, solid wood improves the indoor climate, it absorbs pollutants from the air and regulates the humidity in the rooms by absorbing too much moisture to release it again in drier times. The advantages of wood are particularly pleasing to residents who have allergies, because it prevents the electrostatic charging of dust.

Solid wood expertise

The purchase of high-quality wood is demanding and takes a lot of time, both for our suppliers and for us. Every tree is different and needs to be examined carefully before buying. For expensive types of wood, we sometimes even inspect the trunks on site. Purchasing must be planned well in advance, as all purchased wood must first be dried naturally and then technically over a long period of time before it can be processed. This requires a trusting relationship between our suppliers and us as buyers. The wood we process comes from Europe and North America. For example, American walnut, black willow, or black cherry are supplied from North America. Beech wood or Swiss stone pine wood originate 100% from Switzerland, ash around 80%. The other types of wood mainly come from various countries in Central Europe. Around half of the volume is purchased in Switzerland, the other half in Germany and Austria. Vonrickenbach.swiss possesses the Swiss Timber Certificate (HSH) for beech, ash, elm, and pine. This means that 80% of these woods are of Swiss origin.

All oak or what?

Demand for high-quality solid wood is high. The trend in furniture and interior design has clearly been towards oak and American walnut for years, followed by beech and ash. Last year, we processed about 368m3 of oak wood for the manufacture of various products such as tabletops, furniture parts, whole furniture, interior fittings such as stair railings, etc., closely followed by beech (130m3) and American walnut (129m3), with domestic ash wood a little further behind at 48m3.
Beech is mainly used for furniture, especially beds and tables. It is the least expensive of the hardwoods and thus a more cost-effective option than oak or walnut. Beech, along with oak, is also a sought-after wood for furnishings in public spaces. Oak and walnut are mainly used for furniture or furniture parts. Oak, due to its excellent durability, is also often used for outdoor applications, for example for benches or garden tables.
