Stadtcasino Basel given a brand-new look.

After four years of construction and renovation, the music hall at the Stadtcasino Basel now features a brand-new look. The renowned concert hall has been given a fresh new appearance by star architects Herzog & de Meuron under the direction of Ritter Giger Schmid Architekten SIA AG. At vonrickenbach.swiss ag, we are proud to have contributed to the success of this magnificent renovation project.

Extravagant and uniquely beautiful

The Stadtcasino Basel offers various surprises following the renovation. The architects have succeeded in bringing a touch of the vast world of glamorous opera and theatre houses to the Barfüsserplatz square. Particularly noteworthy are the original brocade wallpaper, the parquet flooring developed especially for the city casino and last but not least, the two new staircases which are positioned at the sides of the foyer.

As part of the extension of the music hall, vonrickenbach.swiss ag fulfilled two different orders and therefore made a substantial contribution to the completion of this impressive building.

Perfectly presented palings instead of staccato

Working in close collaboration with the architects Herzog & de Meuron, we completed the entire balustrade in the foyer of the music hall. It was an intensive process to produce the palings, hand rails and bottom rails in solid oak (oiled) through to the metal ground installation system and we drew on previous consultations, including our extensive expertise in CNC technology.

Thanks to our new technology

Using a special milling pattern designed by Herzog & de Meuron and which can only be milled using CNC technology, a total of 243 palings were produced for the balustrades in four different milling patterns. We also want to mention the beautiful hand rail on the railings which was fitted with a specially milled handrail profile.
“All of the palings were milled using our 5-axis CNC machine, the Maka MK7. 270 hours were invested in the CNC processing,” reveals Harald Binder, Project Manager at vonrickenbach.swiss ag.

Elegant furniture for opulent spaces

In total, 48 high-quality pieces of furniture were also produced by vonrickenbach.swiss ag for the elegant spaces in the music hall, working in close collaboration with the star architects. From opulent benches and elaborate lounge, standing and merchandising tables to ingenious catering counters and elegant cloakroom tables.

Solid wood and other exquisite materials

In order to create a uniform image, the same milling processes were used for the furniture as for the railings. A total of 46 different paling types were incorporated into the various furniture models. In addition to top quality solid oak (oiled), the furniture production also included the use of other exquisite materials such as velour for the upholstery on the benches or polished steel coatings for the mobile catering furniture. The milling time applied to create the furniture on our 5-axis CNC machine came to 510 hours in total.

High standards – perfect execution

The quality standards for this order were exceptionally high. The combination of different materials used in producing the balustrade and furniture and our coordination with various partners demanded perfect project management on our part.

High level of passion and problem-solving expertise

Thanks to our extensive experience, modern CNC machines, latest laser technology and highly motivated team, it was a great pleasure for us to carry out this project. We would like to thank the Stadtcasino Basel again for the challenging and fascinating work and wish them a very successful first concert season in the new space.
