It is less obvious that it can also result in a great and practical design product. When Michèle Schneeberger, owner of the young Swiss label HOLZLÖFFEL.CH, searched unsuccessfully for a stylish shoehorn a few years ago so that her partner would finally part with his beloved, worn-out, plastic one, she had the idea of making one herself instead. For her, the best raw material seemed to be wood, obviously pure Swiss wood. She began to work intensively with solid wood and found the ideal partner to implement this idea in VONRICKENBACH.SWISS AG.
FROM THE IDEA TO THE UNIQUE PRODUCT
NOT MADE OF PLYWOOD - MADE OF SOLID WOOD!
However, before a convincing, designer, wooden shoehorn could be produced, several technical challenges had to be overcome. Our goal was to manufacture the shoehorn entirely from solid wood and not to use glued laminated wood, as competitor products do. As a result, it took several tests with different wood thicknesses before the necessary stability was finally achieved with the shoehorn. The next hurdle was production WITH OUR CNC MACHINE. Due to the small surface area and the high cutting pressure during milling, fixing the shoehorns to it was another major challenge. Consequently, some shoehorns went flying through the production halls. Furthermore, the surface had to be milled as cleanly as possible so that the finishing time could be kept to a minimum. The result, however, shows that what started as a gift for a loved one is now a popular accessory and, with the addition of an individual logo, it can be a valuable and durable customer gift. Each item is 100% Swiss design, unique and made of solid wood with the highest level of CRAFTSMANSHIP.
