Swiss wood is comfortable. The Rigi lounger makes that very clear. After all, tired hikers want to relax. And of course, it also has to look good and fit into the landscape. An exciting project that we at vonrickenbach.swiss AG had the opportunity to support from design through to serial production.
A rest cure on a wooden lounger?
Yes, it is possible. The Rigi lounger follows the silhouette of the Rigi mountain. On one side, you can lean up against the Rigi, and on the other lie ergonomically along the soft curves of the hills. On sustainably managed SWISS WOOD.
The idea: boost tourism
Theo Weber, cantonal forestry expert and head of the Forest and Natural Dangers Service of the Canton of Schwyz wanted to offer tourists around the Rigi an opportunity to rest and enjoy the unique landscape even better. He brought his idea to vonrickenbach.swiss because he was looking for a partner who could advise him on the planning with the necessary TECHNOLOGICAL EXPERTISE and was committed to implementing the project. We were happy to take up the challenge.
The design: recreating the Rigi
OUR TEAM set to the first designs with Theo Walder. The lounger was to represent the shape of the Rigi mountain. And it does. The first prototype already showed this. And the first series was quickly manufactured.
Quality and design requirements: very high
The requirement was to construct a lounger that is ergonomic and comfortable, but also weather-resistant and long-lasting. This was not simple. The greatest challenge was the design. To build a stable lounger to be used outdoors, that looks attractive, is comfortable and can be manufactured profitably.
Swissness: Pure Swiss wood
Only SWISS WOOD was used for the Rigi lounger – more precisely, Douglas fir. This wood grows in our forest and is resistant even to extreme weather. This means that there are a lot less cracks or torsions than with other varieties.
