EXPERIENCE SUSTAINABILITY AT THE GOLDAU ZOO
Sustainability can be experienced at the Goldau zoo. It is obvious not only in the varieties of animals that are homed there, but also in different promotions and exhibitions. Our team thus manufactured wood honeycombs for the exhibition on bees, for instance, and lasered information on the pieces of an enormous wooden chain on the Swiss Wood Day. This collaboration that has lasted years is an inspiration and always stimulates new ideas.
We have the same values: sustainable use of our resources. The most important aspect at GOLDAU ZOO is the rearing and resettlement of endangered species. Because biodiversity is essential for the survival of human beings and nature. Our work using wood as a material is ideally suited to the zoo’s philosophy.
Personalised lasering
In September, at the Swiss Wood Day, various representatives from the wood industry showed how construction elements and furniture are made from trees. In order to illustrate this interconnection, visitors found huge wooden chains at ten locations all over the zoo.
We at staging.vonrickenbach.swiss AG were able to laser information about the forest and the processing of trees into wood on each link. We are one of the few companies in Switzerland to use laser technology. It is an art to program machines to carry out complex engravings. We can laser surfaces of almost any size.
A beehive of wooden honeycomb
The exhibition on bees opened in mid September. In the bee basket, you can hear the sound of the hive, in part thanks to sound effects. The comb structure is made up of 2 x 3 m wide and 15 mm thick wood panels out of which honeycombs are milled. Our challenge was not to break the wood while milling it. The comb elements only became stable when put together.
